Tulia and Lambert have been busy sewing masks lately! Our friends and former refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo are both master sewists: Lambert works for K&L Manufacturing and Tulia recently completed the WEAVE* sewing class.

Thanks to our partners at the SNAP Financial Access Center and the SNAP Women’s Business Center, our employment manager Christi was able to hire this dynamic duo to sew 100 masks in a week. The masks were delivered to people in Spokane who may not have or struggle to have access to this kind of protective equipment. We are thankful to empower (and employ!) these friends in partnership with SNAP.

We invite to you to provide the same opportunity for other sewists in our community. Each $100 provides income for a refugee sewist and supplies to make 10 masks and makes sure the WEAVE program still exists when classes can resume.

Check out the WEAVE program online.

*WEAVE (Women Empowered to Achieve Vocational Enrichment) is a six-week sewing class where motivated refugee women in the area gather together to learn vocational skills.”
